Purity Hair Vine Free Tutorial

Hair vines are easy to make and versatile to wear.  You can pin hair vines into your hair at the back, side or at the front.  You can make hair vines to any length so you can wear them as a small simple side detail for an evening out or make it long and weave through the length of a ponytail or braid.  Try pinning your vine in circlet-style or wrap around a bun or updo.

The hair vine pictured was made using 4mm and 6mm glass pearl beads, 0.4mm silver plated wire and our superb quality diamante rondelles added a touch of sparkle.  A set of 3 jewellery pliers is also recommended for a professional finish.

Start with a beaded spray

1. Cut a piece of wire about 50cm long.

2. Slide 3 of the small pearl beads onto the middle of the wire. Curve the beaded part of the wire to create a loop and twist the wire a couple of times directly below the beads to secure. Keep twisting the wires several more times until you have about 2cm of twisted wire below your beaded loop.

3. Divide the 2 wire ends and slide another 3 small pearls onto one side as before. Push up the beads to create a new loop just a little bit shorter that the first one. Twist the wires as shown in the picture.

4. Divide the two wire ends and slide on a small pearl, a diamante rondelle bead and a large pearl bead. Push the beads up to create a spray a little bit shorter than the last one. Bend the wire over the 3 beads create another spray little shorter than the last one.

5. Repeat step 4 to create a final spray.

Make a loop

6. At the base of this first beaded spray you need to make a loop (this loop is used to thread a hair pin or clip through when wearing).  To do this take the beaded spray, twist the wires together for a further 1cm and curve this twisted part of the wire around the round nosed pliers to create a loop.

7. Secure the loop by wrapping one of the untwisted wires around the base of the sprays.

Add further sprays

8. At this point you can twist the wires together to add more length.  If you wish you can add further sprays using the same wire.  Alternatively, I prefer to take another beaded spray just like the first and place it over the first as shown in the picture, separating the wire ends over your index finger.

8. Holding the sprays with the other hand, rotate the wire. Keep twisting until you have at least 1cm of wire.

9. Separate the wire ends and carefully cut off the 2 shortest wires with side cutting pliers.

10. Flatten any sharp edge with flat nose pliers.

11. Continue to add further sprays until your vine is the required length.

12 On the final spray twist the wires together for a further 1cm and curve this twisted part of the wire around the round nosed pliers to create a loop as on the first strand.

13. Secure the loop by wrapping one of the untwisted wires around the base of the sprays.

14. Wrap the remaining wire ends round the base of the loop a couple times to secure. Carefully trim the wire ends close to the loop. Finish off the vine by smoothing down any sharp edges with flat nose pliers.
